Cambria Vacation

We had a much-needed vacation last weekend. A woman from church offered us the use of her vacation home on the coast in Cambria. We were eager to take her up on it, to say the least. It was a great time to go since Tim's birthday fell on Monday. He was able to spend it at the beach, though that day was very windy. We toured Cambria, walked Moonstone Beach, took a boat ride in Morro Bay, nearly got blown away at Pismo Beach, saw thousands of elephant seals on the beach, went to the visitor center at Hearst Castle, drove on Hwy. 1, and watched the sun set over the Pacific Ocean as the flog was rolling in. We ate entirely too much, forgot about the girls' schedules, and enjoyed ourselves completely. It was wonderful, and we did NOT want to leave! (Although, I do think vacation is actually more work for me than staying home.)

Maggie is all worn out! Cute hat, huh? Thanks Grandma!

Morro Rock

Our only family picture, while on the boat tour of Morro Bay.

Norah's first taste of salt-water taffy... let's just say she LOVED it!

I think Maggie was extremely happy to have more time with Daddy in the morning. I don't think we left the house before 10 am any of the days. If we did, it wasn't by much!

Tim discovered why I love to put Maggie in the sling, or this front carrier. There's just something cozy about having her so close and still having your hands free. She loves it too!

Norah was pretty interested in the elephant seals. She also loved having the freedom to run ahead of us on this little walkway.

Daddy took Norah to put her feet in the ocean. It wasn't quite as cold as Lake Michigan, but wasn't warm either (especially since it was only 70 degrees outside).

Well, she ended up getting more than just her feet wet. No one was ready for this wave, including me 10 feet behind them. I snapped this as I was scrambling back and it's a perfect action shot! She was soaked, but was a great sport about it. No crying at all.

Little Miss Girly Girl here wouldn't sit in the sand. She had to sit on the blanket and reach way in front of her to shovel. Hah! I don't think she'll be the Kindergartener digging for worms at recess.

No caption needed. :-D

It was a beautiful night. I'm amazed at how quickly the sun went down, but then I could have watched for hours. God surely created a lot of gorgeous things to bring us joy and remind us daily of His awesome-ness!

We found another beach to go to on Tim's birthday that was more sandy instead of rocky. It was pretty windy though.

Another goofy one to add to our collection like this. :)

Visiting Family

We recently had a nice Saturday trip to Stockton to visit some of Tim's side of the family. I had not met them before and Tim hasn't seen them since he was a little boy. We saw Tom and Jan Alexander, Jim and Sally Shephard, their daughter Jaime and grand-daughters Jordan and Keeley. Tom and Sally are Tim's mom's cousins. Whew! It sure took a long time for us all to get together, but we are hoping to see them again before we leave. Norah had a wonderful time playing with the girls, and it was a lot of fun to hear stories and pictures from Tim's mom's childhood. The 2 1/2-3 hour drive was worth it too!
